BMW’s Vision 100 series new motorcycle has a Batman look

BMW has released their next concept vehicle in the Vision 100 series, and it’s a motorcycle. The Motorrad is sleek, self-balances and comes with augmented reality goggles.

BMW today released the fourth and final concept of its Vision Next 100 series which represents a progressive solution for the world of motorcycling.

The new BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 was revealed at an exhibition in Los Angeles, joining the previous concepts from BMW, Mini and Rolls Royce. The new concept envisions a future of biking in a connected world, where motorcycling is more about escaping the everyday routine and less of a mean of transportation.

One of the highlights of BMW’s futuristic bike is that the rider no longer needs to wear a helmet and a padded suit in order to ride it, thanks to the motorcycle’s so-called Self-Balancing mechanism. This tech keep the bike balanced both while in motion and while stationary, preventing it from tipping over. Thanks to
this assistance, all riders of any level of skill can keep pushing over their personal limits for an even more exciting ride.

Another highlight is the black frame triangle, a clear nod to BMW’s first ever motorcycle, the 1923 R32. On the Vision 100 concept, it has been reinterpreted in order to form a functional sculpture, linking the two wheels together and making the frame appear as a single piece.

Despite adopting the dynamic appearance of a naked bike, the Motorrad Vision 100 features some clever arrangement of surfaces in order to protect the rider from wind and weather as effectively as a full fairing. In addition, the steering system is frame-assisted which means that when the rider turns the steering wheel, it adjusts the entire frame in order to change direction. The so-called Flexframe is also adjustable, allowing a light steering at standstill and a more rigid one at higher speeds. The powertrain was designed to mimic the style of the traditional BMW boxer engine but it’s actually just a case for the zero-emissions drive unit. It also changes its shape, extending outwards when the bike sets off to enhance aerodynamics and protect the rider ‘from the elements’.

The bike and rider are always connected via a special visor, essentially a pair of special glasses showing relevant data, like ideal riding lines and banking angles among others. And instead of the usual protective clothing which is rendered useless by the bike’s safety systems, BMW created a unique airy suit for the rider, which warms or cools him or her and inflates the neck section for extra support and comfort.

I’m a big fan of Tesla and everything Elon Musk does and I want to share this amazing fresh speech that he and JB Straubel gave about the new Gigafactory in front of media and many Tesla fans.

Free supercharging fundamentally has a cost. The obvious thing to do is to separate that from the cost of the Model 3. It’ll still be far cheaper than gasoline, but it will not be free for life unless you purchase a special package.

The Rinspeed Etos is packed full with cool features.

Thanks to its 9 high-definition exterior cameras for tracking surrounding objects, the Rinspeed Etos can operate autonomously. While on the road, it automatically links to the city infrastructure for traffic information and even cell phone reception.

Switch to a manual driving mode and the steering wheel will extend out of the dashboard, and the vehicle’s gaze-tracking system monitors their eyes to ensure constant alertness.

A neat little extra – a drone and a landing platform for it, consisting of 12,000 individually controlled LEDs, are included.

Inside, the Etos is equipped with two curved 21.5-inch Ultra HD widescreen monitors that serve as the gateway between the occupants and the Harman Connected Car infotainment suite. The technology acts like a courteous personal assistant, anticipating the needs and wants of the people inside while also providing ‘perfect entertainment.’ Even better, the system learns as it goes, predicting appointments, adapting to personal preferences, and reducing the amount of manual entries the driver must input. If you must be bothered with entering in an address or changing a preference, you can do so with touch, voice, or gesture controls.

Few of these features strike us as strictly necessary, and the most outlandish of them (we’re looking at you, drone) will likely never be implemented on a production automobile. And what features do will likely find their home in more accommodating vehicles than a two-seat sports car. But show cars like these are made to capture our imaginations, and the Rinspeed Etos has clearly done exactly that. We’ll look forward to seeing it at CES and at the Geneva Motor Show to follow.

Most prototype self-driving cars are designed for comfort, not performance. After all, wouldn’t you want to take the wheel if you really wanted a thrill? Rinspeed thinks there’s a case to be made, though: it just teased the Σtos, an autonomous sports car concept. The vehicle still has a steering wheel for those hands-on moments, but the controller automatically retracts into the dashboard when you’re content to let the car do all the hard work. Two curved widescreen displays also move closer into view in this mode, and there’s even a drone (complete with a landing pad) that could deliver goods or record your adventures on camera.

Like with many Rinspeed concepts, this is all a bit pie-in-the-sky — the odds are that you won’t see an Ʃtos in your garage any time soon, if ever. There will be a real-world example of it at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, however. And even if it’s just a theoretical exercise, it’s a reminder that self-driving cars don’t have to be exclusively about getting from point A to point B. You could eventually see sports cars that give you full control when you’re on a race track, but take the reins when you’re wading through traffic on the way home.

BMW i8 Key May Change Car Keys Forever…♥♥♥…

The BMW i8 is one of the most talked about sports cars due to its very fast 0-60 time and the amazing 94 MPG figure. But not only is the car futuristic looking, so is its key.

The new key that comes with the BMW i8 may just be a game changer. LCDs are basically everywhere but they’re yet to be implemented into a car key. But it’s understandable why – it kills battery. However the tech is now available due to things like Bluetooth Low Energy.

The high resolution LCD can show how much charge is left in the car, what the current capable range is, when it was fully charged and if it is locked or not.

Thankfully the whole thing isn’t made up of a display, it still has some tactile buttons. The most useful buttons of course being the lock/unlock and boot.

It will be amazing to see how car manufacturers adopt this sort of tech into their own keys in the future.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Chevrolet revealed the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Tursimo (VGT) concept – an imaginative interpretation of the ultimate race car, developed exclusively for fans of the PlayStation® 3 racing game, Gran Turismo® 6.

Audi Has Made Diesel From Water And Carbon Dioxide

It’s the holy grail in energy production: produce a fuel that is both carbon neutral and can be poured directly into our current cars without the need to retrofit. There are scores of companies out there trying to do just that using vegetable oil, algae, and even the microbes found in panda poop to turn bamboo into fuel.

This week, German car manufacturer Audi has declared that they have been able to create an “e-diesel,” or diesel containing ethanol, by using renewable energy to produce a liquid fuel from nothing more than water and carbon dioxide. After a commissioning phase of just four months, the plant in Dresden operated by clean tech company Sunfire has managed to produce its first batch of what they’re calling “blue crude.” The product liquid is composed of long-chain hydrocarbon compounds, similar to fossil fuels, but free from sulfur and aromatics and therefore burns soot-free.

The first step in the process involves harnessing renewable energy through solar, wind or hydropower. This energy is then used to heat water to temperatures in excess of 800oC (1472oF). The steam is then broken down into oxygen and hydrogen through high temperature electrolysis, a process where an electric current is passed through a solution.

The hydrogen is then removed and mixed with carbon monoxide under high heat and pressure, creating a hydrocarbon product they’re calling “blue crude.” Sunfire claim that the synthetic fuel is not only more environmentally friendly than fossil fuel, but that the efficiency of the overall process—from renewable power to liquid hydrocarbon—is very high at around 70%. The e-diesel can then be either mixed with regular diesel, or used as a fuel in its own right.

But all may not be as it seems. The process used by Audi is actually called the Fischer-Tropsch process and has been known by scientists since the 1920s. It was even used by the Germans to turn coal into diesel during the Second World War when fuel supplies ran short. The process is currently used by many different companies all around the world, especially in countries where reserves of oil are low but reserves of other fossils fuels, such as gas and coal, are high.

And it would seem that Audi aren’t the first to think about using biogas facilities to produce carbon neutral biofuels either. Another German company called Choren has already made an attempt at producing biofuel using biogas and the Fischer-Tropsch process. Backed byShell and Volkswagen, the company had all the support and funding it needed, but in 2011 it filed for bankruptcy due to impracticalities in the process.

Audi readily admits that none of the processes they use are new, but claim it’s how they’re going about it that is. They say that increasing the temperature at which the water is split increases the efficiency of the process and that the waste heat can then be recovered. Whilst their announcement might not be heralding a new fossil fuel-free era, the tech of turning green power into synthetic fuel could have applications as a battery to store excess energy produced by renewables.

The hydrogen is then mixed with CO2 that has been converted into CO in two chemical processes and the resulting reactions produce a liquid made from long-chain hydrocarbons – this is blue crude, which is then refined to create the end product, the synthetic e-diesel….

The Jatech rotary drop door is much different that the concepts used in the 1897 Benz coupe and even cars today. Without the presence of hinges the car door slides up and down. The owner is not required to pull a handle as with traditional models.

Real Life Batmobile: Man Spends Two Years Building Iconic 1989 Car .. WoW..

Zac Mihajlovic—a 29-year-old Batman fan from Camden, Australia—spent two years building this impressive and fully-functional 1989 Batmovil. The car is road legal and he uses it mainly to make sick kids happy together with the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Zac bought some parts from the original car and built others. Apart from the weapons the car is pretty close to the one Michael Keaton drove in the movie.

A REAL-LIFE superhero has turned down six-figure offers for his home-made Batmobile – so he can continue helping sick children. Batman fanatic Zac Mihajlovic, from Camden, Australia, hand-built his very own street legal version of the car from the 1989 film starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. The 29-year-old turned his comic book fantasies into a high-octane reality by constructing a replica of the iconic vehicle. And the car has whipped up a reaction wherever it has been seen. Businessmen from across the world, including a Sheik in Dubai, have offered Zac big bucks for the Batmobile – and he has also seen his share of bizarre requests. And rather than cash-in on his dream machine, Zac decided to use his powers for good by teaming up with the Make-A-Wish foundation, who make dream’s come true for terminally-ill children.
